[ √ ] Lyon Arboretum
I absolutely love hiking in Hawaii. There are soooo many gorgeous places to go. But these next two places are definitely the BEST hikes I've been on, thus far!
The first place we went to was the Lyon Arboretum (Ar-bor-e-tum ... I only had to ask Joel how to say it like 20 times. For the life of me, it wasn't sticking in my head.)
And count yourself lucky! In this blog, you won't have to read me yammering on about very many things, this blog is manly all pretty pictures!
Enjoy!
Joel and Camie complementing the beautiful scenery!
Camie fell in love with this little pond. And rightly so! It was such a beautiful area!
Joel was... reluctantly... holding his hand up to show the HUGE size of this leaf!
Aww... I'm being cute :D
Random pieces of wood assembled in the middle of the grass.
Joel's contribution to this work of art. He named it, "Morning Wood". Hehehehe
I've been framed!
I didn't get many names of the plethora of plants we saw, but I did get this one! It's an Indian Mulberry bush!
(Was anyone else just now singing, "Pop! Goes the Weasel"? ...No? Just me? ...ok)
This is an Hale Halawai. Hale Halawai means, "a house for the coming together of the 'Ohana". And Lilo, from Lilo and Stitch, taught us that 'Ohana means family!
The rangers here at the Arboretum are constructing this Hale Halawai the traditional way! No screws or nails! Just rocks, trees, and palm frawns (and a lil bit of mortar).
Oh! I thought this was neat! The leaf arrangement looks like lace!
I was amazed that this was a real flower! It looked so fake and waxy.
I LOVED this flower! This is called the Bat Flower. It reminded me fondly of my favorite director, Tim Burton.
Well, the ranger told us that the waterfall would be kind of lame because of the lack of rainfall lately. Sadly, he was right.
Big smiles! We're loving the view!

[ √ ] Manoa Falls
Next up are the lovely Manoa Falls.
What a cute little hiker!
I made them walk in front. Joel was getting in trouble for taking pictures, from behind, of Camie and I hiking. No one needs a picture of my bum!
This tree has an ear!!!
That's what I call a natural staircase!
Joel in the bamboo forest. Too bad, it wasn't exactly what we had in mind. Oh well, it was still fun and beautiful!
This waterfall definitely didn't fall short! Granted it wasn't the most AMAZING waterfall I've ever seen, but at least you could see the water falling! :)
Cool candid shot :)
This to you may look like a blurry photo of random people in the forest, but I post it because I thought it was neat. These people are doing a documentary for NOVA! Well, I am nerdy, and think that's pretty cool to witness a NOVA documentary being made!
I had a great time hiking, as usual, and truly enjoyed the blessing God has given us here! Talk about beauty! Added bonus, I have a ton of cool new wallpaper backgrounds for my computer now!

Wow!! I love the pics! Its so pretty!! A lot of the pictures remind me of something out of a fairy tale!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post Andra! I love that you included Joels nickname for the wood display (ha ha). I definately need your pics, you took some that I just didn't get... or that you photographed better. :D
