Hale Koa Luau

My great friends, Caroline and Luis, came to Oahu for a vacation and very nicely invited me to go with them to the Hale Koa luau on Thursday!

Rob was invited too, but he had duty - it's where you have to stay on the ship 24 hours.  It's like being on call, but you don't get to leave the ship. Boo.

But it was so great to see them!  We had a blast!  Just like our good ol' college days! :D

Caroline and I began our luau fun with some lei making.  Here's Caroline putting hers together.

Me, putting my lei together.

Caroline's almost finished product!

Just waiting for it to be put on a string and tied to our wrists

They look great!  And so do we :D

Since Luis didn't want to make a pretty flower lei, we made him make a cool palm frawn head band!

Very nice! :D

Climbing the tree to get those tasty coconuts!

Getting ready to pull the pig out of the ground

Yum!  Dinner!  Let's get to it ...

Festive fruit table decoration

Seaweed Slaw

Delicious sliced cucumber and mango (which I don't generally like) in some sort of cool vinegar dressing

Lomi-Lomi.  It might look like Pico de Gallo, but it's not!  It's diced tomatoes, onions, and raw salmon.  It's actually pretty tasty!

Caroline getting ready to try the poi...

It's kinda bland and weird textured.  It's not horrible, but nothing I'd wanna eat all the time.  And it looks like Caroline agrees!

It wasn't Luis' favorite dish either, lol (This is his post poi taste test picture)

DINNER!  Starting at the top and going clockwise: Fried Chicken, Pulled Pork, Mahi Mahi (that could of used some seasonings), YUMMY Fried Banana, Sweet Potato, Fried Rice, and in the middle was some good Teriyaki Beef.

And the show begins!

This is the depiction of how fire came to the Hawaiian Islands.

Dancing with fire!  Check out this link to my video of the crazy awesome fire dancers that ended the show.

Caroline and I with a very nice Hawaiian Dancer :)

We had such a great time!  I'm so glad I got to see them and I miss them already!
